This is a popular eBook that is shaking the network marketing industry (including Amway, Quixtar, Alticor and sundry kingpins such as Bill Britt, Dexter Yager, Fred Harteis and other Diamond IBOs). It's also stirring the political ire of many. Authored by former Amway Quixtar emerald level IBO, Eric Scheibeler, the book is a chilling portrayal of the process by which intelligent people can persist for years in pursuing the Amway (Quixtar) dream, ultimately being bilked of thousands of dollars in what MSNBC Dateline called the "hidden business". This "dirty little secret" makes a few Amway Quixtar kingpins very wealthy selling motivational books, tapes, web sites, CDs and seminars rather than Quixtar's cosmetics, soaps and electronics. ( SOURCE: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4375477/ )
The book is "Merchants of Deception" by Eric Scheibeler and is available in PDF format from the authors site at no cost.
Few books I've read have so compelled me to take action. I've been a consultant, trainer and "helper" to thousands of good people in the network marketing profession and dozens of well-known MLM corporations over the years. It has always been a complicated maze to find a good company and then navigate a path to success in network marketing, but it is just plain unfair to expect sincere, hard working people to help grow a company while navigating a maze filled with rats.
We can do better. Yes, WE in the industry of direct sales can do better than this. What happened to Eric Scheibeler (author of Merchants of Deception) should never have happened. But the sad truth is, what happened to Eric Scheibeler is not an issolated case. Mr Scheibeler is but one story and now through a grassroots project related to "Merchants of Deception" other people are sponsoring WORDS in the online version of the book and linking their stories, comments and opinions. Collectively these stories (at: http://www.letsgetthewordout.com ) tell a global truth and expand the readers understanding of the original "MOD" book.
I heartedly recommend this 'page-turner' of a book, but my words pale in comparison to the authors. There is no better way to describe the book than to share words directly from Eric Scheibeler. Visit http://www.merchantsofdeception.com and read how Eric Scheibeler descibes his "pupose" in writing Merchants of Deception. You may download a complimentary 300+ page PDF version at the site.

$55/month to run a business! Whoopydidoo!
Those CD's are awesome and cost lots of money to produce and diamonds going to functions to speak around the country and wonderful stories, so what if they make extra money. They are spending time building there own downlines if they are speaking for other people's downlines around the country. I've seen churches sell tapes for $5 to $7 a piece and have no problem with that. And 160 people a month hit $40K a year with Quixtar! No other can compare. 6 month gurantee on products, shampoo that lasts 9 months for two people, handsoap that lasts for 2 3 months, toothpaste lasting 3 months , free prepaid shipping with each order, saved $1800 in the first 11 months, in a seperate account to see if we were saving money and we only do 300 pv a month and buy only what we need. The seminars are uplifting and help me to be a better person to humanity. The spring leadership is just over a $100 for friday, all day saturday and 3/4 of sunday. FTC approved materials, no income claims, no checks shown at meetings, tax benefits, travel benefits. And Bo Short started his competing company only to fail and is now with another company. Nuskin sells soap for $10/bar, Oasis sells their drink for almost $40/litre. The PV/BV with most companies is awful. Most are 65% of the wholesale price while quixtar is 106% of the the wholesale price and almost close to the Retail price on many product lines. Most companies retail price you would never pay. But $36.00 retail for a bottle of some of the best quality vitamins is awesome. I saw so much junk on the web and decided to inspect myself and look up the likes of bo short and others and they are with other companies. If they had done the business the way they were taught they would have not gotten into financial trouble. How can you spend $5000/year on tapes? $55/month x 12 = $700/year. And that covers webistes and other things too. $7 for a meeting in a nice venue is not bad One big meeting ever 1 or two months. Please share the truth in an accountable way. How many people hit over $3K a month in any other company? Quixar has great reputation, and great products and great hopeful people, believing in the system that promotes dreams, character and helping others.

The Merchants of decpetion is a great read and shows how an upline diamond abused his downline financially and despite all the supposed fabulous wealth from quixtar, what's even more shocking is how this diamond is so ruthless that he actually scheduled and ran additional group functions to pad his bank account. It is truly scary and it does appear that quixtar is guilty of inaction or inability to control the motivational groups.

Hey Greg - as Nu Skin executive I can promise you that Nu Skin doesn't sell soap for $10 a bar.
Nu skin doesn't actually sell soap at all.
Good effort though!
